I know it's hard to imagine how life was in the times of Nehemiah, so this is how I'm going to explain it to my class: Most of the wealth was controled by a small number of very greedy, incompetent people. Because of their greed, the common people were greatly taxed and so heavily burdened that they had to mortgage their properties to pay the taxes. Foreclosures were at such a high rate that many people had to send their children to work as slaves until the mortgages could be paid. Because of the incompetence of the nobles, the central Persian government allowed them to raise money by levying more taxes. Hard to imagine! :-)

This is cool. I have found that google groups is a good way to get members to think during the week. I love using exrta and putting pieces into emails as well as the information from the cd for a little prep before Sunday school. It gets some that would not other wise to study or just think about what is coming up. Short emails are easy to read and more people are likely to "study" on a daily basis with them. They added a lot more discussion on Sunday. Love this stuff!
